About WorldCup Mate!

The founder of WorldCup Mate!, Daniel Jang worked as FIFA volunteer for the past 2 FIFA World Cup finals (2002 Korea/Japan, 2006 Germany). In both events, he was amazed at the excitement and passion shared by the fans from all over the world. The vibe and joy displayed during the World Cup transcended all boundaries and brought many people together in unity, peace and friendship.

Daniel felt it was like spending a month in paradise. How often do people see a whole month go by like this in their everyday life? There was definitely something special about the FIFA World Cup and what it can bring to our humanity.

In 2009, he came up with an idea to start up a global social networking site dedicated to the World Cup fans and FIFA volunteers to share these experiences with the world whilst assisting those who are less-privileged through social innovation. WorldCup Mate! website was born.

WorldCup Mate! is powered by Elgg, the leading open source social networking platform. The site is maintained solely by voluntary donations from its supporters. 100% of all donations will directly go to children and football development projects in Africa (charity partnership sought), making our community strictly a nonprofit entity committed to global social stewardship. Excellence, transparency, accountability, compassion and integrity are the underpinnings in driving our innovative social network responsibility. In short, we aim to make life better for all involved!

WorldCup Mate! is open to anyone interested in FIFA World Cup all over the world. Members can use blogs, photo albums, microblogs (Twitter-integrated), videos to share their experiences. Members can also use our classified tool to organise social events or groups to watch games together in their area, find travel buddies and accommodation in South Africa, buy and sell football stuff or simply make new friends - for the love of football.
